Anybody can get a qualification, spend an hour or so with a client and call themselves a Person Trainer but not everyone has what it takes to be a good Personal Trainer. The good trainer has the ability to listen and to be able to read and understand people's emotions. He can judge when a client needs to be pushed a little harder and know when they want to ease back.
And he is more than just a trainer. He is also a lifestyle coach. He can offer advice and recommendations to improve your lifestyle and your health and how to break those bad habits. He will have advice to work on those bad habits, maybe improve your eating habits, encourage and support you to quit if you're a smoker, pass on the junk food or too much alcohol or avoid some of those late nights if you've been overdoing it, and have the ability to motivate you, both during your training session and outside of it. These skills come from years of hands on effort, personal experience and practice, and a keen interest in health and fitness. They are learned and practiced everyday in the real world, not only read in a book in a class room. A good trainer will offer the emotional support needed to guide his clients towards achieving their goals and he should be someone they feel comfortable with as the client would often be physically close to the trainer or may be discussing some personal issues. He needs to have knowledge and experience in a wide field of training styles to be able to offer his clients the best range and variety of training options to keep the sessions fun and interesting and beneficial. Importantly, he should be able to teach - to have the ability to pass on information in a way that his clients can absorb and understand. All these attributes take time to develop and refine and benefit from years of practical experience and learning. |
Why do you need a personal trainer?
We all need a little help with exercise sometimes, whether we're just starting out or we've been at it for a long time.
If you are new to exercise: For a beginner, a good personal trainer is the ultimate lifestyle coach. He will introduce you to an effective routine and simple lifestyle changes that will work for you at your own pace at a time that suits you. You're experienced but need a boost: You’re already in good shape, but if you’re stuck in the same routine and want to get out of the rut, a personal trainer will jump start both your effort and your routine. Motivation falling: One of the main reasons you can benefit from a personal trainer is when you lose the desire to stick with your exercise program, or lose track of your goal, he is there to motivate and keep you fired up . Achieve Your Goals: Steve can help you to push past those self-imposed barriers, encouraging you to lift heavier, go longer and challenge yourself harder than you would on your own. It’s hard to slack off with him there beside you, telling you “...just one more rep!” |
